Weddings and Functions

Vows Under Two-Hundred-Year-Old Oaks

A Franschhoek wine farm for your wedding: the ceremony on the Oak Lawn, dinner in the 1898 cellar, and the cottages for the morning after.

Four Spaces, One Farm

From a Table of Forty to a Lawn of One Hundred and Eighty

Use one space or move through all of them as the day goes on. Nobody drives anywhere: the lawn, the cellar and the restaurant are a short walk apart.

The Oak Lawn at Swaelkloof, old oak trees over green grass with the mountains behind

180guests for the ceremony

The Oak Lawn

You say your vows in the shade of the old oaks, with the vines falling away behind you and the Franschhoek mountains closing the view. Late afternoon, the light comes in low and gold through the branches.

Ceremony, sundowners, long tables in summer

A long candlelit table laid for dinner between oak barrels in the Old Cellar

120guests seated for dinner

The Old Cellar

The 1898 stone cellar, laid as one long table between the barrels and lit by candles. The swallows nest under the eaves outside, and the thick walls keep it cool on a February night.

Dinner, speeches, dancing until late

Die Swael's stone dining room with a long wooden table, candles and the fire lit

70guests seated

Die Swael

Our restaurant, closed to the public and taken over for your day. Chef Sipho Mthembu cooks in the room, the fire is lit in winter, and the terrace doors open onto the vines in summer.

Small weddings, rehearsal dinners, the morning-after lunch

The Boardroom, a stone room beside the cellar with a long table and tall windows

24seated, 60 for a function

The Boardroom

A quiet stone room beside the cellar for corporate lunches, strategy days and year-end functions. Work in the morning, walk the vines at noon and sit down to lunch at Die Swael.

Conferences, team days, year-end functions

A Wedding Here

What Our Couples Say

  • “We married on the Oak Lawn in March with ninety of our people, then walked up through the vines to the Old Cellar as the light went. Our coordinator ran the day so quietly we forgot there was a plan. Six months on, friends still message us about the lamb.”
